Services Provided: Screening, Treatment, Education
Counties Served: Carroll, Madison
Since 2001, The Merlin Foundation has provided a continuum of services for uninsured, low-income women of Carroll and Madison Counties through screening, education and navigation. Due to the rural nature of these counties, limited access to services, low education and income levels, it continues to be our mission to provide mammograms, gas and phone cards, bi-lingual educational material and navigational support to increase the level of early detection and awareness of breast health issues. Our focus is low income, uninsured women over 40 but consider all applicants on an individual basis. We believe making inroads in reaching these women requires consistency and trust. To that end, we evaluate our success not only by tracking statistical data on each client and participation in health fairs and community events, but by the strong partnerships with our local hospitals, physicians, clinics, health departments, as well as our largest employer, Tyson’s Foods, to insure we reach as many women as possible on a regular basis, especially with regard to the Hispanic community. Without this Komen supported program little or no early detection or education would be available to them.
